The Director of the UNESCO Chair in Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), Carmelo Javier León González, is participating in the III Canary Islands Regional Seminar of the European SEALabHaus project, funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area programme. The seminar is being held on 21 July at the Cartography Laboratory of the ULPGC School of Architecture, on the Tafira Campus.
The seminar focuses on the creation of the future SEALabHaus Volunteer Network, an initiative designed to ensure the continuity of the project’s results after its completion by establishing stable collaboration among universities, public administrations, businesses, associations and other stakeholders involved in maritime culture and blue tourism.
Carmelo León’s participation, in his capacity as Director of the UNESCO Chair in Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development, highlights the role of this ULPGC entity as a platform for knowledge, collaboration and knowledge transfer in the fields of sustainable tourism and territorial development. In this context, the Chair contributes its expertise and specialised knowledge to the seminar, supporting the design of future collaborative initiatives related to maritime culture, blue tourism and sustainable development.
Participation in this event further reinforces the UNESCO Chair’s commitment to generating applied knowledge, fostering collaboration between the university and other social and institutional stakeholders, and promoting sustainable models of tourism and territorial development.
