Juan Carlos Martín, member of the UNESCO Chair in Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development (UCSTED), participated online in the international scientific conference Human Rights at Risk: Organised Crime at Sea and Across Borders (OC-SAB), held from 2 to 4 July 2026 at the Romanian-American University in Bucharest.
The conference was organised within the framework of COST Action CA23103 – Life, Liberty and Health: Ensuring Universal Protection of Human Rights at Sea and provided an international academic forum for presenting research findings, exchanging knowledge and strengthening cooperation in the fight against organised crime and the protection of human rights at sea.
During the conference, Juan Carlos Martín presented his research entitled «Economic Violence Against Women in Human Trafficking at Sea: A Gender Perspective» and co-moderated the panel dedicated to Human Rights.
His participation reflects the UCSTED’s commitment to international scientific cooperation and to promoting research that addresses complex global challenges at the intersection of human rights, organised crime and maritime contexts. Through its involvement in international research networks and initiatives, the Chair contributes to fostering knowledge exchange and collaborative approaches to the prevention of organised crime and the protection of vulnerable groups.
