Mission:
The UNESCO Chair in Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development seeks to cooperate with local communities in developing countries and exploit the scientific knowledge to promote a comprehensive development of the tourism activity, with direct impacts on the well-being of the target populations, the strengthening of their capacities, and the valuing of their culture and respect for the environment.
Vision:
A world reference in the integration and capitalization of scientific knowledge and cooperation in a laboratory of ideas that support the sustainable economic development of tourism, and the free circulation of knowledge and cooperation.
Goals:
In line with the priorities of the UNESCO and its strategic programs, the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as in collaboration with other UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks, the UNESCO Chair in Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development seeks to cooperate with the social, economic, environmental, and cultural development that is required for progressing in sustainable tourism, mainly in collaboration with local communities in developing countries.
