ONLINE WORKSHOP “Gender, community and everyday challenges: A dialogue around the work of five women researchers”

VII Annual Conference of the International Spring Symposium in Tourism Development (VII SSTD 2025)

The UNESCO Chair in Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) is organizing an online workshop titled “Gender, community and everyday challenges: A dialogue around the work of five women researchers”. The workshop will take place on June 20 as part of the seventh edition of the International Gran Canaria Spring Symposium in Tourism Development (VII SSTD 2025), an international event organized by the University Institute of Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development at ULPGC.

Drawing from their experiences, five women researchers whose work focuses on key issues such as gender, social psychology, tourism, education, and community-based research will reflect on power dynamics, structural barriers, and the financial and emotional challenges of working within communities. The session will highlight feminist approaches, ethics of care, and collective knowledge building as essential pathways toward transformation. Its goal is to foster critical dialogue around the tensions between academic frameworks and community realities. Ultimately, the roundtable aims to inspire more inclusive, situated, and socially engaged research practices.

This workshop is coordinated by Yen E. Lam González (Director of Research at the UNESCO Chair in Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development, ULPGC) and Eugenio Díaz Fariña (Secretary of the UNESCO Chair in Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development, ULPGC).

Organized by the UNESCO Chair in Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development
