THE CLIMAR PROJECT HOLDS ITS THIRD TRAINING SESSION AT THE AUTONOMOUS UNIVERSITY OF THE STATE OF QUINTANA ROO (MEXICO)

The third training session of the CLIMAR project was held at the University of Quintana Roo (UQROO) during the week of July 8–12, 2024. This session was titled “Multidisciplinary Research Approaches Applied to Climate Change, Tourism, and Circular Economy.” The European project “Strengthening Research, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer on Climate Change & Tourism in Higher Education Institutions in Latin America (CLIMAR),” coordinated by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and OBREAL, aims to strengthen research, innovation, knowledge transfer, and continuous professional development across partner countries in Latin America. Its goal is to support the adaptation of tourism activities to climate change and to mitigate the sector’s environmental impact.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to UQROO and to its Rector, Dr. Natalia Fiorentini Cañedo, for the warm welcome and hospitality. Special thanks also go to our colleagues at UQROO — Bonnie Lucía Campos, María Luisa Hernández, Norma Oropeza, Daniel López, and Oscar Frausto Martínez — for their outstanding work, and to Celina Hernández and Kenji Vargas for taking care of all of us during our stay.

This third training session benefited from a high level of academic input. We would like to express our gratitude to all the speakers for their time, dedication, and the passion they brought to their seminars and workshops: Karem Fernández (SEMA), Yen Elízabeth Lam González (University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, ULPGC), Norma Oropeza (UQROO), Javier Vázquez (QROO), Mireya Y. Morgano (ULPGC), María Luisa Hernández (UQROO), Daniel López (UQROO), Daniel Antenucci (National University of Mar del Plata), Jesus Olivero Verbel (University of Cartagena), Oscar Frausto Martínez (UQROO), Juan Carlos Arriaga, and Tania Camal (UQROO).

We also extend our thanks to Jorge Verduzco and Gerardo Ramírez from the chewing gum company CHICZA, for hosting a site visit as part of the CLIMAR project.
