ATTENDANCE OF THE UNESCO CHAIR OF TOURISM AND SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE ULPGC, AT THE NATIONAL MEETING OF UNESCO CHAIRS AND UNITWIN NETWORKS OF SPAIN, HELD IN CORDOBA IN OCTOBER 2023

Carmelo J. León and Javier de León, Director and Co-Director of the UNESCO Chair in Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development of the ULPGC, attended the National Meeting of UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks of Spain, held in Cordoba on 16 and 17 October 2023.

The event was attended by representatives of 35 UNESCO Chairs from Spanish universities and was hosted by the UNESCO Chair in Conflict Resolution of the University of Cordoba. During the two days of work, issues such as the transformation of higher education, the work plans of the UNITWIN Networks in Spain and the role of these chairs in university life were discussed.

The inaugural conference entitled The Futures of Higher Programme Education was given by Keith Holmes, Research Coordinator of the Unitwin / UNESCO Chairs Programme; a conference was also given by Francesc Pedró, Director of the International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC), with the title La hoja de ruta de la UNESCO para la transformación de la educación superior: ¿qué esperamos de las cátedras UNESCO?, as well as the Professor of Political Science of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Fernando Vallespín, on La Universidad entre pasado y futuro.

Carmelo J. León participated in one of the two round tables on the role of UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks.
