The initiative, held at the University of Zanzibar, brought together representatives from the Universities of Cádiz, Huelva and La Laguna, as well as Casa África. Alongside Jin Taira, Vice-Rector for Internationalisation at the ULPGC, members of the Cooperation Team and ULPGC professors Carmelo León, Germán Santana, Juan Manuel Santana and Idaira Giménez also took part in the event.
During the International Week, a range of workshops were organised to train African specialists in international mobility management and cooperation projects, with a focus on developing skills related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this context, ULPGC professors addressed issues including quality education, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, as well as sustainable cities.
The aim of the LiderÁfrica project is to contribute to the training of young university leaders capable of addressing future challenges and promoting sustainable development. Through this initiative, balanced technical cooperation between African and European institutions is fostered, based on knowledge exchange and the joint design of training activities aimed at preparing future African leaders to tackle the challenges associated with the 2030 Agenda.
The ULPGC’s participation in this International Week represents an opportunity to strengthen academic and institutional collaboration with African universities, establish new cooperation networks and jointly develop initiatives that contribute to sustainable development through higher education.
This participation is also part of the ULPGC’s strategic commitment to consolidating its role as an academic bridge between Europe and Africa. This strategy is reflected not only in projects such as LiderÁfrica, but also in institutional initiatives such as Bridge to Africa, which aim to strengthen scientific, educational and institutional relations with African universities, promote knowledge transfer and foster cooperation based on innovation, sustainable development and mutual benefit.
